The Italian National Federation of Fishing Enterprises (FEDERPESCA) was established in 1968 and has been a member of CONFINDUSTRIA (National General Confederation of Italian Industry) ever since. It works with the Italian Government, Parliament, and EU to associate, represent, and protect the Italian fishing shipowners and fishing industry companies. It is a party to contracts for mechanical nets and marine fisheries under the CCNL (Italian national collective employment agreement) and CCNL.L.
For the management of regulatory institutions under the Fisheries CCNL, FEDERPESCA is a party to the National Fisheries Observatory and the Bilateral Fisheries Board (E.BI.PESCA), in one with the workers’ OO.SS..
FEDERPESCA conducts professional training and research in the field through the company “FEDERPESCA RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENTS S.R.L.”, which it fully owns, with a specific mission of helping member fishing enterprises become global.
FEDERPESCA is also a member of Italian Federation of Sea – Italian national Federation of Maritime System, established in May 1994. The Italian National Federation of Maritime System (in brief Federation of Sea) currently comprises the majority of the industry’s organizations: AIDIM (Maritim Law), ANCIP (port labour) ANIA (insurance), ASSOLOGISTICA (logistics), ASSOPORTI (port/harbour labour), ASSONAVE (shipbuilding), ASSORIMORCHIATORI (port towage), COLLEGIO CAPITANI (maritime staff), CONFITARMA and FEDARLINEA (merchant shipping), FEDERPILOTI (piloting), FEDERPESCA (fishing navigation), IPSEMA (maritime welfare), RINA (certification and classification), CONS.A.R. (research), TMCS (cabotage promotion), and UCINA (recreational boating)
FEDERPESCA represents Italian sectoral companies at the Italian National Economic and Labour Council) and at the Italian National Maritime Social Welfare Institute).
At European level, it represents Italian fishery companies at EUROPECHE, the Italian Association of National Fishing Companies Organizations of EU countries.
It also promotes FEDEROP.IT, the Italian Association of National Fishing Producers Organizations, recognised by Decree of the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry. The 2,200 member companies are engaged in fishing, fish processing and marketing, net and equipment manufacturing, and fishing services. They are organised into three national trade unions: the Italian National Union of Shipowners of Costal and Mediterranean Fisheries; the Italian National Union of industrial activities of Fishing Industry and Nets, without affecting the authority of any category associations, part of the confederal system.
